FDT/DTM technology - important or not?

The FDT/DTM technology is available since nearly 8 years now. Is this technology important in the automation business or not? Do you know about it or have you even never heard about it? What is you opinion?

I believe that it is important and complementary to EDDL. It provides rich diagnostic which in turn help for Predictive Maintenance. We did mentioned this technology for Specification for DCS( Distributed Control System)

I work for Rockwell Automation and the FDT/DTM Technology is critical for entry into the process industry.
I have been involved in the development of the HART DTM's for distributed I/O.

Hi All,

I worked on development of DTM for Foundation Fieldbus devices. I think FDT is a beatiful technology that gives the best interoperability between Configuration Tools and third party device specific DTMs. Please checkout Invensys Process System's DTMs if you want to explore FDT and how it helps Integrators and Maintenance engineers.

Most of the major automation suppliers, and many of the smaller ones, have invested in FDT/DTM technology. We believe it is complimentary to EDDL. It's really a way to aggregate asset information management for various devices and pieces of equipment across multiple networks.
