Bus communication system for harsh environments
In one of our projects, we would like to connect transducers to PLC. The maximum cable distance from PLC controller is approximately 200m. We would like to know which bus communication is best suited for the project and why.

profibus, to suit products from different manufacturers and also work with the flexibility of field bus

The distance you specified is covered by almost all major industrial networks.
Some options:
* connect each transducer to a bus network
* use a distributed I/O system
* mix of the two above.

Ethernet based networks (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT): kilometers (on fiber optic)
For harsh environments I would suggest ControlNet, Profibus, Ethernet (fiber), but it depends on the specific problems (chemical, mechanical, high temperatures etc) and the type of cable protection manufacturers can provide.
Also, care should be taken if your network enters / crosses hazardous areas.

Harsh as in? Electrical noise? Mechanical vibration? Chemical attack?
Armoured shielded twisted pair can go with Modbus for your distance constraint.
