Polarization Index test

Hi All

My name is Jerry,
I have a problem about Polarization Index (PI) test for insulation testing.
can I use PI test for measuring cable insulation testing in distribution system?
because from IEEE 43 2000, PI test mostly used for generator, motor or transformator insulation testing.

Thanks for Your attention and response

Jerry,I have always used it for motors, transformers and generators and its just a ratio of 10mins to 1 min readings of insulation resistance values with less than 2 or very high ratio value not so good. A smart question indeed!
