Results of solar calculators are at their best only as good as their inputs. The key to a proper calculation is understanding of details that affect output and their volatility. You should also be very clear about expected precision of your results. On the other hand, going into too many technical details makes calculations costly to perform.
I suggest using RETScreen as a good compromise between precision and simplicity - a multi language, Excel-based free modeling software.

I'm afraid retscreen shows only cash flow graph, but it does calculate major financial ratios.

I use Energy Periscope for commercial installs. Nicely laid out and somewhat easy to use. Plus, the developer Scott Kronk is very responsive to questions and suggestions.
