the most important factor thatgovern the real time systems like SCADA in the determinism , so , if virtualization will keep such constraint met through the design , so no matter how SCADA host layer will access plant floor or field layer ...
also keeping in mind the idea of high availability , fault tolerance which by the way are still running under great depat in the virtualized solutions ..

i knew that MARATHON (HA, DR) modules were implemented in certain SCADA solution using wounderware ....this is based on softfware virtualiuzation..
for hardware virtualization, YOKOGAWA is always developing it large scale scada solution based on STRATUS industrial virtualized servers ....and satify high availability constraints ..

Marathon has partnerships with Wonderware and several other SCADA vendors. Many of the implementations also use Marathon for FT, not just HA.

Following up Robert's statement, we have acheived tremendous success with Marathon in the Middle East and North Africa region to provide redundancy solutions for various other mission critical aplications expecially SCADA (Wonderware, Yokogawa, Siemens BMS, and others) in several industry segments including Oil & Gas, Water/wastewater, Building Management, Airports, Municipalities, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Power and others. Depending on each customer requirement, our combined solution varied from Marathon everRun-FT, everRun-HA-Single, everRun-HA-Dual, everRun-HA-Multi, everRun-2G, all with and/or without Splitsite in case of disaster recovery scenarious. I can certainly share indepth information...

We've found that our customers gain a number of benefits from using the cloud based features we built into our software suite. First, in the development phase of SCADA applications (as with any other large scale, complex application) SaaS gives them the ability to collaborate among remotely located teams of engineers and managers--version control is better, communication is better, and development cycles move faster. Second, in the maintenance phase, cloud capabilities allow for better update management--new versions of the application and/or underlying product can be pushed uniformly company-wide.
