Non Contact sensor to detect direction of rotation of Fan blades

Any body can suggest me Non Contact sensor by which we can detect direction of rotation of Fan blades. Rotational Speed: 3000 rpm

I think it is far more easy to sense the air flow direction. If you hate air flow sensors (and I´d understand you), then you can install two tooth A and B displaced 90 degrees on the fan shaft and use a proximity sensor for each one. Then, comparing the time from A to B and the time from B to A can tell you the direction of rotation. Be aware that a shaft turn will last 20 ms (5 from A to B and 15 from B to A or viceverse), so you need a fast sensor, input card and processor. If you want, I can send you a detailed drawing. Best regards.

Hi manish,

please select autonics proximity sensor(that have detection distance of 8mm to 30mm of shaft and pulse counter this is coming around INR 5-6 thousand rupees.....that one can able to see the rotaion of shaft fan anything.... if u want details please contact Mr.Rajeev his mobile no 9840832296 he is a direct dealer of autonics.......

If it is a three phase Fan you can monitor the direction via a Phase Sequence Monitoring Relay.

hi every body.
I think an easier way to use the rotary encoder is the phase difference between the two inputs.

Hi,

Before jumping to offer you one more solution, please explain the application and why the fan direction would change. Is the fan on DOL or drive controlled.

Hi Manish! You can weld a small metal piece ( a screw, for example) to side of fan ( by example in one blade). After that mount 3 non contact magnetic sensors - order their activating will dictate you direction of rotation....
